Reign of Terror (sep 5, 1793 – jul 28, 1794)
Description:
In March 1793, the National Convention created the Committee of Public Safety, led by Maximilien de Robespierre, a group that would find and execute threats to the new democracy. In this time period, around 27 thousand people had died from execution or imprisonment, and around 500 thousand people had been arrested. The Reign of Terror ended almost a year later when Robespierre was tried and executed.
