Description:

V-J Day, or Victory over Japan Day, commemorates the end of World War II in the Pacific, marked by Japan's surrender on August 14, 1945, and the formal signing of the surrender on September 2, 1945, aboard the USS Missouri. V-J Day was a time of widespread celebration as people rejoiced at the end of the war. In Britain, Prime Minister Clement Atlee announced two days of national holiday to celebrate VJ Day on 15 and 16 August.
