The Manhattan Project (jun 1, 1942 – aug 1, 1947)
Description:
A top-secret US government program during WWII to develop the first atomic bomb. The project began in June 1942. The first successful nuclear test, the Tifinty test, was conducted in July 1945. The program was so secretive, that many scientists, allies, and even the vice presidents were aware of its final goal. The program ended when the Atomic Energy Commission took control on August 1947.
