The Armenian Genocide (jan 1, 1915 – jan 1, 1916)

Description:

The Armenian Genocide was the mass killing and forced deportation of Armenians by the Ottoman Empire during World War I, beginning in 1915. Fearing that Armenians would side with Russia, the Ottoman government targeted the Armenian population through arrests, executions, and death marches into the Syrian desert. An estimated 1.5 million Armenians died due to violence, starvation, and disease. While the Ottoman regime claimed these actions were wartime security measures, most historians recognize them as a systematic effort to eliminate the Armenian people—making it one of the first modern genocides. The event remains a deeply controversial issue, especially in modern-day Turkey, which continues to dispute the label of “genocide.”
