African-American Civil Rights Movement (jan 1, 1955 – jan 1, 1968)
Description:
The African-American Civil Rights Movement was a group of activists in the USA that began in the mid 20th century. They aimed to fight for equal rights for African Americans, who often faced racism, discrimination and unfair treatment. The group formed as a result of the laws that separated black and white people. People like Martin Luther King jr. and Rosa Parks played important roles in organizing protests and rallies to demand change. One of the most famous events of the African-American Civil Rights Movement, was the speech Martin Luther King jr. gave in Washington in 1963. The speech is called "I have a dream". In the speech, he shared his thoughts of a future where everybody would be judged by their character instead of their skin color. This movement gave attention to issues and lead to important laws, for example the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This law made it illegal to discriminate people based on their race or skin color. This group was important in achieving fairness and equality in the USA.
