The Woodstock Music and Art Fair, also known as Woodstock, was a music festival held from August 15 to 18, 1969, on Max Yasgur's dairy farm in Bethel, New York. The festival, also known as the Woodstock Rock Festival, attracted over 460,000 attendees and featured 32 acts outdoors despite overcast weather. It was one of the largest music festivals in history and became synonymous with the 1960s counterculture. The festival is considered a pivotal moment in popular music history and a defining event for the silent and baby boomer generations. The event's significance was further reinforced by a 1970 documentary film, soundtrack album, and a song by Joni Mitchell. The festival was listed as one of the 50 Moments That Changed the History of Rock and Roll in 2004 and the site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2017.
