Description:

The 1947 partition of India involved the division of British India into two independent dominion states, the Union of India and Dominion of Pakistan. The Union of India is now the Republic of India and the Dominion of Pakistan, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, and the People's Republic of Bangladesh. The partition also involved the division of Bengal and Punjab provinces based on Hindu or Muslim majorities, as well as the division of the British Indian Army, Royal Indian Navy, Indian Civil Service, railways, and central treasury. This partition ended the British Raj rule in India.
