Description:
-1952 Egyptian military forces led by Gamal Abdel Nasser (became Egyptian pres) overthrew pro-british monarchy
- the Egyptian Government (Nasser nationalizes it) seized control of the Suez Canal from the British and French owned company that managed it
- Israel is concerned that a primarily muslim country is in control because they might caught off Israel trade in Suez Canal
- France and britain go by sea, Israel goes by land and they all attack Egypt
- US and USSR criticized invasion (President Eisenhower wasn’t happy about the crisis because he was pushing for the end of colonialism – independence of countries in Africa)
- Britain's relationship with US is a bit strained → end of their imperialistic era
Demonstrated that the U.S. and USSR were the true global superpowers.
