Frankfurt Assembly and Constitutional Crisis (may 18, 1848 – jun 1, 1849)

Description:

The Frankfurt Assembly was the first freely elected parliament for the German states. It produced a consitution based on democracy which encompassed the wants of the liberal and nationalist revolutionaries. However, King Frederick William IV refused to accept it. "I will not accept my crown from the gutter."
