The Chauri Chaura incident (jan 1, 1922 – jan 1, 1922)

Description:

Took place in Uttar pradesh. A procession of peasent were fired upon. This led to an angry mod to clash with the police. In the resulting mob violence, 22 policemen were killed and the station was burned down. Coming to know of this, Mahatma Gandhi called of the non-cooperation movement and was placed in jail for 6 years. The Khilafat movement died off as well as the people of the modernizing turkey united themselves under Mustafa Kemal Pasha and the sultan was deprived of all his power.
