Description:
He was born in Porbandar, Gujarat. He studied law in England, practised Law in South Africa, observed the racial discrimination Indians suffered from and developed his cornerstone philosophies; Satyagraha (the force of truth, aiming to appeal to the conscience of the oppressor and make them realise their mistakes) and Ahimsa (Non-violence) Before his Arrival, the nationalist movement was dominated by the middle class and intelligentsia, but after his arrival, women, tribals, untouchables and several other classes and sections of society participated.
