Third Anglo-Afghan War (may 3, 1919 – aug 8, 1919)
Description:
The Third Anglo-Afghan War begins on May 3, 1919, when Amanullah Khan, the new Emir of Afghanistan, declares a jihad against the British to assert full independence and strengthen his rule. Afghan forces invade British India on multiple fronts, initially achieving victories and occupying Bagh. However, the British counterattack, pushing the Afghans back. The British seize Spin Boldak and use the Royal Air Force to bomb Afghan targets, including Kabul and Jalalabad. Facing mounting pressure, Amanullah calls for an armistice in June. The war ends with the Anglo-Afghan Treaty of Rawalpindi August 8, 1919, granting Afghanistan control over its foreign affairs while recognizing the Durand Line as the border.
