Description:
The Baroque period (1600–1750) was marked by ornate melodies, rich harmonies, and dramatic contrasts. Music featured intricate ornamentation, energetic rhythms, and the development of tonality. Instruments that were prominent during the time where the string family such as Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass, and Harpsichord. Early wind instruments, such as Oboes, Bassoons, and Recorder, and brass instruments, such as Horns and Trumpets (with no valves or keys), where around, but were either solo instruments or rarely used due to the intricacies and limitations of the instruments of the time. Composers like Bach, Handel, and Vivaldi emphasized grandeur and emotion in their works. Most music of this time was sacred music as the only people/places who could truly afford music were the church and a select few royalty members. The Baroque period ended with the death of Johann Sebastian Bach on July 28th, 1750.
