Description:
Otto von Bismark was a key part in the unification of the German states. A Prussian chancellor and ambassador, he was a very powerful figure. He served under King Wilhelm I of Prussia, and under his leadership he made very large moves against other countries. He provoked wars against countries such as Denmark, Austria, and France, winning all in short, decisive victories. These gained Prussia immense territory, and allowed them to take control and unite the northern German states. He declared the German Empire in 1871.
