Description:

The Carbonari was an informal network of revolutionary societies. These were largely kept a secret, and were primarily based in Italy. They often maintained a patriotic, nationalistic, and liberal view. It's believed that they may have influenced revolutionary groups and actions in other countries as well, such as Portugal, Spain, France, Etc. Additionally, many figures that were apart of the Carbonari had an important influence on the Italian unification and development of it's nationalism. The main purpose of these governments was to create a constitutional government. Many romantic republicans made up these groups.
