World War I (Paris Peace Conference) -1914-18 (dec 1, 1913 – jan 1, 1918)
Description:
In world war one, Japan was a member of the allied powers, and attacked various German colonies during the war.
Japan wanted a vast majority of things after winning the first world war. As a victor, and a member of the allied powers, Japan was permitted to attend the Paris peace conference, where they became a member of the LON. With the Paris peace conference, Japan wanted multiple different clauses. They wanted all of the German colonies throughout the pacific, they also wanted Manchuria, and most importantly they wanted a racial equality clause, which would have seeded them as equal to the europeans
Overall, Japan did not get what they wanted with the results of the PPC, which once again caused the sentiment of western suppression of Japan's true nature to be felt. Japan wanted all of the German colonies in the Pacific, however they were only given the German colonies in China, a small amount of land compared to what they wanted. They also failed to get the Racial equality clause, as the United States was concerned with Japan's pressures on China to give them manchuria(Japan had immense influence within Manchuria) Because Japan was considered to be the strongest power in the pacific, the USA tried their best to limit their ability to gain a lot of the German Islands in the pacific.
Overall, there were quite a variety of consequences after WW1. To start, Japan was officially crowned the most powerful country in the pacific, however they were not even remotely close to how powerful their country wanted to be. Stopped by the USA during the PPC, tensions between the two countries, along with American allies, started to rise. Another consequence of the War was the fact that Japan was able to rapidly grow their military readily through conscriptions in order to maintain their vast new empire, which gave more money and power to the military.(USA did not like this)
Overall, The PPC was not definitely not the best in terms of Japanese interests. Although they were able to gain control of some of the territories they wanted, it was not good enough. The fact that their racial equality clause was blocked by the Americans, along with the fact that their expansionist aims led to increased tensions between Japan and the USA would give this event a 5/10. They still got some stuff, but not what they believed they deserved.
