LucretiusRoman philosopher. Lucretius's philosophical poem De rerum natura (On the Nature of Things) (50 B.C.E.) expounded the atomism of Leucippus, Democritus, and Epicurus. Lucretius denied the immortality of the soul and criticized the superstitious adherence to religious belief.
