Project MK Ultra (apr 13, 1953 – jan 2, 1973)

Description:

Project Mk Ultra was a mind control and brainwashing program that had started in response to the Russian, Chinese, and North Korean, “brainwashing” programs that affected POWs and spies in the Korean War. Dr. Sydney Gottlieb headed it, the ability to control and extract information out of anybody was inescapably alluring. Many former Nazi scientists worked on Mk Ultra after Operation Paperclip had ended in which the CIA recruited said scientists to work on projects such as Mk Ultra. The scientists set up experiments on unknowing United States citizens, this included but was not limited to CIA-hired prostitutes luring men back to safe rooms often fitted with one-way mirrors where these now lab subjects were observed after the prostitutes spiked them with LSD. After these early tests which were relatively weak or inconsequential to helping the CIA develop a so-called “truth serum,” they stepped up their efforts and experiments at the Allan Memorial Institute at McGill University. At McGill Donald Owen Cameron a CIA-hired psychiatrist would begin new experiments that would test “psychic driving”. This included putting patients under drug-induced comas for days and weeks (3 months in one case) all while playing a repetitive phrase over and over for the entirety of that time; one of these phrases was “ your mother hates you”. These tests would have lasting effects on the patients, with some losing the ability to speak, forgetting their parents, or thinking their interrogators were their parents. After these experiments, a whistleblower in 1973 revealed the program and subsequently, the CIA director ordered that the file be immediately destroyed. The previous information is only what was left after the destruction of files making a lot about this program still a mystery.
