At 11:03 a.m. EST, Wednesday, the European Space Agency confirms that signals were received from the Rosetta spacecraft's Philae lander on the surface of comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko, marking the first time that a spacecraft has made a soft landing on a comet. Rosetta is an international mission led by the ESA, with instruments provided by member states, and additional support and instruments provided by NASA.
