Description:
Ilmen Slovenes in Old Russian, this east Slavic tribe lived in the area around Novgorod and the Molga River basin (Tver region, Russia). This tribe would later found Novgorod, engage in trade with Rurik, and head the "Call of the Varangians" led by Rurik to form the Rus'.From the 8th-12th centuries, would be further divided into the Krivichi (Eastern) and Polabs (West).
