Vladimir the Great (jan 1, 958 – jul 15, 1015)

Description:

Son of Sviatoslav I. Brother of Yaropolk I, & Oleg.
Father of:
1) Vysheslav (Novgorod),
2) Sviatopolk the Accursed (Turov),
3) Yaroslav the Wise (Rostov/Novgorod),
4) Boris & Gleb (Rostov/Murom)
7 other sons & 9 daughters.

Also known as "The Saint". Was under his rule that the baptism of Russia took place. Though there is evidence Vlad was a stanch pagan, for whatever reason he undertook a "Test of Faiths". Here he met with leaders of Catholicism, Islam, and Judaism, but settled on Orthodoxy in 987.

Kievan Rus' saw its largest territorial expansion under Vladimir.
