According to research from statistics, Canadian indigenous women and girls made up 25 percent of all female homicides victims between 2001 - 2015. Marion Buller led a national inquiry on the matter and to show people what is going on, and to call on the government to do something about it. First degree murder is the highest charge you can get on a homicide but we have seen that these cases are usually “marked by indifference” and if not that attorneys usually accept plea bargains or other reduced charges. When Prime minister justin trudeau talked on the matter he would not use the world genocide to describe the tragedies that were happening. The significance of these many tragedies is that the indigenous population once again gets ignored or mistreated whether if a homicide case is just undetermined or a attorney takes a plea bargain there was never real justice for all the lives lost.
