Cuban Missile crisis (oct 16, 1962 – oct 28, 1962)

Description:

The Cuban Missile Crisis happened between the 16 to the 28th of October 1962. It occured because Cuba had gotten missiles specifically nuclear warheads from Russia and they were stationed on the island. It was a concern because those nuclear warheads could hit any major city in America or Canada. Prime minister John Diefenbaker was only informed of the situation moments before JFK spoke on American television. The Diefenbaker administration Did not know if they should comply with the Americans' request to put the Canadian military on High alert status. They also did not want to provoke the Soviets any more than they had. The consequences of this Event is that the relations of the diefenbaker and JFK worsened more than they already were because of the lack of communication by JFK and how long it took for diefenbaker to respond it also showed to the Canadian public that the Diefenbaker government was indecisive hesitant which they didn't like
