Description:
Though formed in 1917, the USSR would not rise as a world power until the end of WWII.
The USSR would fall in 1991. Starting with the Baltic republics pressing for reform in 1988; the fall of the Berlin Wall and limited democracy in Moscow in 1989; In 1990 Russia and several republics had free elections; and in 1991 Russia had its first president who planned to leave the Union.
