Tullus Hostilius (apr 1, 673 BC – jan 1, 641 BC)

Description:

Son of Sabine-fighting Hostilius
Believes the state had become weak during Numa's peaceful reign
Stirs up conflict by intervening in cattle raids between country people from Rome and Alba. Albans raid Rome. Triplets are picked from each side to fight, Rome wins. There is peace.
The surviving triplet (Horatius) insults his sister for crying over the deaths of the other boys. He is put to death by Tullus.

Alba, led by the 'unstable' Mettius, again declares war on Rome, allying with Fidenae and Veii.

Rome and Alba become one, with Mettius killed. Veii enacts a truce with Rome which keeps them from aiding the Sabines.

Tullus declares war on the Sabines with Alba's troops. They are defeated in battle.

A pestilence strikes, believed to be because of the amount of war that had taken place. 'Men now yearned for the days of king Numa'.
Tullus tries to sacrifice to Jupiter in the way that Numa did, but he does it incorrectly and is killed by the god.
