Description:
[1846 - 1848]cause: border dispute over texas & US desire for western land (manifest destiny)
effect: US defeated mexico; massive new territory gain in the southwest -> treaty of guadalupe hidalgo
- most of the war was fought in Mexican territory
- General Winfield Scott invaded central Mexico
- eventually captured Mexico City in September 1847
