Indian Act Amendment (1960): (jan 1, 1960 – jan 1, 1960)
Description:
In 1960, the Indian Act was changed to give First Nations people the right to vote in federal elections without giving up their status. Before this, Indigenous people weren’t allowed to vote unless they gave up their rights as First Nations. This was a big step toward equal rights for Indigenous people, but there were still many challenges for them.
