Libri Feudorum (jan 1, 1100 – jan 1, 1250)
Description:
'The Book of Fiefs'
What did this do?
- Fiefs became inheritable - pieces of land granted by a lord to a vassal in exchange for military service and loyalty.
- Sub-fiefs were possible - a portion of a fief that a vassal further grants to another person, creating a smaller land holding within the original fief.
- Subvassals became possible - a person who receives a sub-fief from a vassal and owes military service and loyalty to that vassal, while also being indirectly connected to the original lord.
