Caligula's Statues (jan 1, 40 – jan 24, 41)
Description:
According to Josephus and Philo, Emperor Caligula decreed that statues of himself be erected in all Jewish synagogues and in the Temple in Jerusalem. This caused widespread concern throughout the Jewish community. The decree was only nullified after his death, and Agrippa was given credit for ensuring Claudius did not continue the project.
