Description:
The battle of Marathon was the culmination of the first attempt by Persia under King Darius tosubjugate Greece. The Spartans worked to stop a second Persian invasion of Greece during the battle of Thermoplyae. The battle of Salamis was then a naval battle between Greek and Persian forces in the Saronic Gulf.
