Battle of Thermopylae (jan 1, 480 BC – jan 1, 480 BC)

Description:

The battle of Thermopylae refers to a battle within the Greco Persian wars. Holding a mountain pass, the Spartans had managed to force the Persians through a pass where they could not utilise their numerical advantage. After the Greek Ephialtes betrayed the Spartans and revealed the location of another pass through the mountains, the Persians quickly managed to press through the mountains. The battle became famous due to the spartan king Leonidas' defence of the pass with only 300 spartan soldiers. The Spartan king's defence allowed the rest of his troops to escape but ended with his and all of his troops' deaths at the hands of the Persians.
