Description:
Prominent ancient Mesopotamian empire centered in the city of Babylon. It rose to power under King Hammurabi, who unified much of Mesopotamia and established one of the earliest and most famous legal codes, the Code of Hammurabi. After a period of decline, Babylon regained prominence under Nebuchadnezzar II, who expanded the empire and built the famous Hanging Gardens of Babylon. The empire fell to the Persians under Cyrus the Great, marking the end of Babylonian rule.
