Constantine The Great (jan 1, 274 – sep 1, 337)
Description:
Constantine was a Roman emperor. From 274 to 337 AD. At the time, Christians would typically be persecuted. However, Constantine was a Christian which made him a controversial figure. People claimed he used the church for his gain. No matter the reason for his conversion, he helped Christians. He allowed Biblical debates and called for 50 Bibles to be handwritten. He made Sunday the new sabbath day because it was the day the sun god was worshipped by the Romans. He showed religious tolerance. He prevented the brutal persecution of Christians by the emperor before him, Diocletian. He preserved Canon Christianity. Christianity was the main religion in the Roman Empire during his rule.
