Description:
On August 6, 1945, the U.S. dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, killing 140,000 people by the end of the year. Three days later, on August 9, a second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, killing 70,000 people. Both bombings led to Japan's surrender, but caused immense devastation and suffering.
