English Civil War (mar 1, 1642 – jul 1, 1649)
Description:
English kings tried to institute new taxes without approval from the Parliament while Puritans within Parliament sought to purify the Anglican church from ornate ceremonies and papal hierarchies. By 1641, King Charles I and Parliament were unable to communicate and both sides raised armies. Oliver Cromwell tried King Charles for tyranny and had him executed.
