Description:
Kemal Ataturk was a soldier, statesman, and reformer who became the founder and the first president of the Republic of Turkey. He rescued the remnants of the Ottoman Empire at the end of WW1, rounding his people against invading Greek forces and fighting off aggressive advances by the British, French, and Italian troops. Through these struggles, Ataturk founded the Republic of Turkey and created a modern state that would grow into a viable democracy. He encouraged the adoption of a European life-style, modernizing Turkey's legal and educational systems with Turkish written in the Latin alphabet and with citizens adopting English names.Added to timeline:
