Theodosius ll (jan 1, 401 – jan 1, 450)
Description:
Theodosius ll was the Eastern Roman Emperor from 408-450. He was a gentle and scholarly man. During his rule, the government was run by a succession of relatives and ministers. Theodosius ll’s reign was troubled by many conflicts. His generals were able to defeat Persian invaders on multiple occasions, but their campaigns against the Vandals were unsuccessful. There were massive Hun invasions as well. Although the “Theodosian walls”, impregnable walls surrounding Constantinople, were built by someone else, Theodosius is associated with them. However, the emperor did help found the University of Constantinople in 425. He supervised the compilation of the Theodosian Codes, which codified the laws issued after 312, as well.
