Ancient Egypt (jan 1, 5500 BC – jan 1, 747 BC)

Description:

Egypt spanned hundreds of years with several Dynastic periods. Each period had its own burial practices that built upon the last. Predynastic (5500BC-3100BC) was known for wrapping their deceased in the sand where they were naturally mummified in the desert. In the Early Dynastic (3099BC-2686BC) used tombs known as Mastabas. The internal organs were removed before the deceased was wrapped in linen and placed in a sarcophagus. The Old Kingdom(2685BC-2181BC) in notable due to their blossoming belief in an afterlife. They dried out the bodies with Natron after wrapping then covered them in resin to hold the form of the deceased. The Middle Kingdom(1999BC-1650BC) is known for making Face Masks of the deceased and applying burial practices to not just the Royal and nobility. The New Kingdom(1549BC-1070BC) was known for the rise of Necropolis where religious practices and care of the deceased were done by Priests. During the Third Intermediate (1069BC-747BC) they built on the practices of the New kingdom to the point of having extremely lifelike mummies that no longer needed their organs removed.
