Description:
The Battle of Verdun marked the first occasion that the Germany army utilised Shock troopers, Flamethrowers, synchronised watches, aerial reconnaissance and artillery spotting.
It began on Febuary 21st 1916 and went until December 18 1916.
French casualties amounted to about 400,000, German ones to about 350,000.
Erich von Falkenhayn believed that the war would be won or lost in France, and he felt that a strategy of attrition was Germany’s best hope of achieving its goals.
Its significance was due to it being the first battle of its kind, one that included new types of troops and tactics that focused on infultrating enemy trenches.
