On the 1st of July 1916, the Somme Offensive began. British and French troops fought German forces in an attempt for a swift Allied victory. 3 million men fought, and 1million men were injured or killed. It has one of the highest death tolls of any battle in history.Its significance is huge as it is the biggest loss of troopoes throughout the entire war.
