Congress of the Confederation (mar 1, 1781 – mar 3, 1789)
Description:
This established administration, the Congress of the Confederation, served under the Article of Confederation from the period of 1781 to 1789. It took on the job of managing the newly sovereign states and coordinating war activities against Britain. However, after many hitches, it was not able to inject much central authority in imposition of taxes, the regulation of commerce, and the enforcement of laws, creating inefficiency and disagreement between the states. The ineptness of the government under the Articles led to the realization that a better federal government must be made; thus, the birth of Constitutional Convention of 1787. These inefficiencies pointed out the need for an effective and more coherent government of the Confederation Congress, thus prompting the U.S. Constitution.
