Albany Congress (jun 19, 1754 – jul 11, 1754)

Description:

The Albany Congress of 1754 brought a number of the American colonies' representatives together on an issue of mutual defense against the French and the Native Americans. The main result of this congressional government was the Albany Plan of Union, a centralized colonial government that Benjamin Franklin offered. Although never adopted, the plan brought into view the necessity for colonial unity and set a precedent for future cooperation that inspired, years later, the drafting of the United States Constitution with its appeal for unity in government.
