J.J. Thomson was born on December 18,1856 in Cheetham Hill, Manchester, United Kingdom. J.J. made his discovery on April 30, 1897. J.J.'s discovery of the electron added a new piece to our history of the atom by revealing the existence of subatomic particles, specifically negative charged electrons, within the atom. His contribution to Atomic Theory was important because it provided experimental evidence for the existence of subatomic partials within the atom, specifically the electron.
