First Voyage of Christopher Columbus (aug 3, 1492 – oct 12, 1492)
Description:
Columbus, a Genoese explorer, sets sail to find a western route to Asia on behalf of the Spanish crown, and first lands most likely on the Bahamian island of San Salvador. He leaves with 90 men and three ships: the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria. He claims to have discovered a new route to the Indies, but dies before it is realized that the Americas was a completely distinct landmass with around 90 million indigenous inhabitants.
