PrestFest (oct 3, 1997 – oct 12, 1997)

Description:

MUSIC lovers in Preston have got together to arrange a mammoth festival which they hope will keep people dancing for ten long days and nights.

PrestFest, due to run October 3-12, will feature a bevy of local bands and big names from further afield.

They will play in all the main music venues, and so far The University Students' Union, the Guild Hall, The Adelphi, The Old Bull, The Flax and Firkin and Tokyo Jo's have already signed up.

A packed programme is being drawn up by PR.ONE Promotions, a voluntary group made up of the town's music industry bosses who got together after this year's Avenham Park festival in Preston was cancelled.

David Gate, secretary of PR.ONE, said: "Preston has a vibrant music scene but people need to know what's going on and where.

"This event will raise the profile of the town. Venues will be doing what they usually do but offering something a little more special.

"We want people to look at the programme and have a choice of two or three acts a night. There'll be something appealing to everybody, from folk to rock fans."

But he admitted it was one of the biggest ventures they had yet tried to arrange for Preston and added: "If we fall flat on our faces, we'll give it another go next year. If it's a roaring success, we'll have something bigger and better in 1998."
