Crown of Castile (1230 - 1469) (jan 1, 1230 – oct 19, 1469)

Description:

1230 - 1469 AD: The Crown of Castile (Not to be confused with Kingdom of Castile) was a medieval polity formed by the union of the kingdoms of Castile and León, solidified under King Ferdinand III. It continued as a separate entity even after the 1469 marriage of the Catholic Monarchs Isabella of Castile and Ferdinand of Aragon created a dynastic union between their crowns. The Crown of Castile's significance escalated in 1492 with the voyages of Christopher Columbus leading to Spanish dominion over the West Indies, mainland Americas, and the Philippines, and eventually vast territorial conquests like the Aztec and Incan empires that transformed it into a global empire by the 16th century. The "King of Castile" title persisted under the Habsburgs and Bourbons despite the country becoming simply known as Spain.
