Mussolini becomes Italian Leader (jan 1, 1922 – jan 1, 1943)
Description:
October 31st, 1922 after the March on Rome, he was appointed prime minister by King Victor Emmanuel III until 1943. This organised March on Rome was to force the King to hand over the government to Mussolini. His goals were to rule an empire that was an heir of the Roman Empire, led by himself, as he thought of himself as one strong totalitarian leader. As he became the leader, he installed a fascist government overthrowing the previous democratic one.
Later, his own National Fascist Party overthrew him and he was arrested, later rescued by German Forces, and made governor of the German-occupied Northern Italy. In 1945 he was captured and killed while trying to flee to Switzerland. As in the Beer Hall Putsch, Hilter was inspired to overthrow Germany’s democratic government, similarly calling it the March to Berlin.
