Britain and France wanted Arab forces, wanted a second front so the Ottomans would take their attention away from the Russians.
Britain took advantage of growing Arab nationalism by encouraging and supporting leading Arabs to revolt against the Ottomans.
Grand Sherif Hussein, ruler of the Hejaz province, started an uprising and expected British support. Known as the Arab Revolt, led and fought by Sherif Hussein's four sons, Ali, Abdullah, Feisal and Zeid.
