On the Origin of Species (jan 1, 1859 – jan 1, 0)
Description:
This is the day when Charles Darwin's theory of evolution, written in his book "On the Origin of Species", was officially published. In this book, he discussed how organisms can evolve over generations by inheriting certain physical or behavioral traits and displaying them more and more commonly as time passes. He also introduced the concept of natural selection as the main factor in evolution, as the traits best suited for survival tend to be the ones that are passed down most often. While he himself knew nothing about genetics, his theory of evolution eventually led to the study of genetics and how traits are passed down from parent to child.
