Vietnam War (jan 1, 1954 – jan 1, 1973)
Description:
Vietnam was a French colony invaded by Japan in WW11, in the chaos that ensued, Ho Chi Minh established a Vietnamese nationalist group, the Viet Minh, and took over North Vietnam. He wanted Vietnam to be unified under communism. South Vietnam was strongly anti-communist and wanted unification, although there were communist Sympathizers in the south, dubbed the Viet Cong. The US was very worried that one communist nation popping up would cause another, so they intervened. The US proceeded to bomb pretty much everywhere nearby. After this, they sent in troops. Then after a lot of conflicts and casualties, North Vietnam launched the Tet Offensive, a massive surprise attack. The US responded with indiscriminate brutality against literally everyone in Vietnam determined as troublesome. With massive protests at home against the senseless killing, the US left the area after killing millions of innocents.
